The Purpose
Emory’s inaugural Public Scholarship Academy is a groundbreaking, four-day program designed to equip faculty with the tools and expertise needed to communicate their academic work to diverse audiences. This initiative bridges the gap between scholarly research and public discourse, ensuring that research has a meaningful, far-reaching impact.
Is This Program for You?
In the midst of a misinformation crisis and growing distrust in science, public scholarship has never been more critical. It serves as a bridge—equipping scholars with the tools and skills needed to make their research and teaching accessible, engaging, and relevant to audiences outside their immediate fields. By participating, you’ll gain the capacity to make your expertise resonate beyond academia, empowering non-experts to navigate the complexities of today’s global landscape.
Public scholarship is not only about visibility but also about creating meaningful change. It enhances the reach and influence of scholarly work, allowing research to inform and shape public discourse on urgent societal issues.
Recognizing this pressing need, Emory University launched the Center for Public Scholarship and Engagement in 2024. Under the leadership of Dr. Kenneth Carter, Charles Howard Candler Professor of Psychology and former interim dean of Oxford College, the center is committed to connecting scholarship with the real-world issues shaping our society.
If you are ready to expand the horizons of your research, teaching, or professional expertise, and make a tangible impact in the public sphere, this program is designed for you.
