About the Center

Welcome

Launched in spring 2024, the Center for Public Scholarship and Engagement was founded by Kenneth Carter, Charles Howard Candler Professor of Psychology, with support from the Office of the Provost at Emory University. The center is based on the campus of Emory’s Oxford College and serves scholars across Emory University and beyond.

Join us in redefining the boundaries of scholarship and engagement. Together, we can create a future where knowledge knows no bounds and where every voice has the power to shape our world for the better.

What is Public Scholarship?

Our Mission

At the heart of the Center for Public Scholarship and Engagement’s mission is the belief that research should enrich and empower our broader community. Public scholarship is about disseminating information; it's about fostering meaningful connections between scholarly insights and the pressing issues shaping our world today. It is a bridge, presenting academic research and teaching in accessible ways, while empowering non-experts to navigate the complexities of our global community.

Scholars are good at communicating with other scholars, but we can do more to share our knowledge and insights directly with the public to increase confidence in evidence-based ways to tackle big issues, understand new technologies and gain trust in research-based solutions.
